What is OwlCrate?

OwlCrate is a monthly subscription service that delivers newly released Young Adult novels and other bookish treats to your doorstep.

What type of payment do you accept?

Currently we accept both debit and credit cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express.

How much does OwlCrate cost?

There are three different plans to choose from. Month-to-month plans are $29.99 plus shipping, and you are billed each month. 3-Month plans are $28.99 plus shipping per month, and you pay for all three months upfront. 6-Month plans are $27.99 plus shipping per month, and you pay for all six months upfront.

ALL PLANS AND SHIPPING COSTS ARE IN US DOLLARS. If you live outside of the US, your bank will automatically convert the charge into your local currency. Exchange rates will apply.

What age do you recommend OwlCrate for?

The novels we include in our boxes are categorized as Young Adult, and as such are recommended for ages 14 and up. It largely depends on the maturity level of the reader. Some children younger than 14 years of age would probably love OwlCrate and the books we select. If you are concerned about a certain theme or book, we are always here to answer any questions you may have.

What comes inside an OwlCrate?

Every single crate comes equipped with a top notch Young Adult novel. We spend many weeks researching upcoming YA releases, and only choose the best of the best. Besides an awesome novel for you to lose yourself in, we also fill up your box with lots of goodies geared towards bookworms. Goodies consist of jewelry, bookmarks, stickers, prints, toys, accessories, and all sorts of wonderful randomness!

What types of books can I expect?

Since we are based in North America, the books we'll be sending out will mostly be hardcovers, and they will usually be the US editions. We will only select books that were published within the last 45 days, so the chances of our subscribers already owning the book will be as slim as possible.

I want to sign up to OwlCrate, but I see that you are currently sold out. What should I do?

By joining the Wait List am I guaranteed to receive a box that month?

Sadly, no. This all depends on how many people are currently on the Wait List . Being on the Wait List DOES guarantee that you will eventually receive an invitation to sign up to OwlCrate though, you just may have to wait a month or two.

We are working hard on expanding our available spots each month, and the wait is getting smaller and smaller.

Why is my credit card being declined? I know it works, I use it all the time!

We're a Canadian business, and as such non-Canadian banks will view your OwlCrate purchase as an international transaction. For some reason, a handful of US banks disable international transactions by default. No worries though! To fix the problem you simply need to call your bank and ask them to enable foreign transactions. Your card should then work!

For which Countries do you offer Tracking?

As of February 2, 2015, 'door-to-door' tracking can be obtained for the following 26 countries:

If your country is not part of this list, tracking will be provided until your package leaves the United States. From there, it is up to you to contact your country's postal service to determine the whereabouts of your package.

How long does it take for my OwlCrate to arrive?

  • Delivery of your box depends on where you are located.
  • Most customers within the US will receive their boxes 2-5 business days after shipping.
  • Most customers within Canada will receive their boxes within 4-8 business days after shipping.
  • Most international customers will receive their boxes within 7-21 business days after shipping.
  • These are estimated times, and may vary due to customs clearance.

Why isn't my tracking number updating?

You will receive your tracking number a few days before we actually ship your OwlCrate. Once we've shipped your OwlCrate around the 20th of the month, your tracking number should begin to update.

If your tracking number still hasn't update after the 21st of the month, please contact us so we can look into it!

Do you ship to my country?

Yes! We ship worldwide (with the exception of Mexico)! We want everyone who is interested to be able to subscribe. Different shipping rates apply, and we're not able to provide tracking numbers to every country but EVERYONE is welcome to sign up!

How much is shipping to my country?

Right now shipping costs are as follows:

  • USA is $6.99
  • Canada is $10.59
  • International is $19.99


My renewal failed. I don't want to lose my subscription! What can I do?

Don't panic! You have until the 5th of the month to make sure your credit card information is updated correctly. Our system will automatically attempt to charge your card the following day. Update your info and you'll be all set!

If I'm not interested in a certain theme, can I skip a month without losing my subscription?

At this time, only people who are subscribed to a month-to-month plan have an option to skip a month. Simply log in to your account, and you'll see your current subscription information on the left-hand side. Click the 'EDIT' button. On the next page, click the button that says 'Skip a Shipment' . This will show your old renewal date, and your new renewal date. Just confirm the change and you're good to go!

Please note that you can only skip one month at a time. If you need to skip more than one month, you will need to momentarily cancel your subscription.

I need to cancel my subscription. How do I do this?

We're sad to see you go!

Simply login to your account at From there you will see a list of active subscriptions. Click EDIT to get into the subscription and then click CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION . You will be billed for any subscriptions remaining in your cycle, but your subscription will not renew after that. When do I need to cancel to ensure I am not billed again for the next month?

Make sure you cancel your subscription by the last day of the current month. Otherwise, you will be billed again on the first of the month and will receive the next month's box.

I had to cancel my subscription in the past, but I wish to join again. Am I able to do this?

Absolutely! We're so happy to have you back!

All you need to do to begin receiving OwlCrates again is log in to your account. You will see your subscriptions on the left hand side of the screen. Click the 'EDIT' button. On the next page you will see a button that says 'REACTIVATE SUBSCRIPTION'. You will have to select which plan you would like, and re-enter your information, including credit card info.

I'm a business selling items that would be a good fit in your boxes! How do I get my items into a crate?

Wonderful! Send us more information about your business/products to [email protected] You must also be willing to send us samples of the items. Unfortunately, due to the amount of inquiries we receive, we can't respond to every email. If we're interested in your items we'll let you know!

When will I be billed?

If this is your first time signing up you will be billed immediately for your first subscription. After that, you will be billed on the 1st of the month for your next cycle.
