Cowboy Romance Books You’ll Fall Head Over Boots For Once You Read Them

By Jessica Scaffidi Saggio

Thanks to Bookstagram, BookTok, and bookish communities everywhere (like our own!), cowboy romances have been hot and trending currently. From Lyla Sage’s Rebel Blue Ranch series to Ride by Roxie Noir, there are so many great books that exist that feature a cowboy romantic lead.

The best part is that there’s something for every reader. Whether you’re a fan of second-chance romances, enemies to lovers, or brother’s best friend, a cowboy is waiting for you!

Here Are 5 Cowboy Romance Books To Check Out

Rebel Blue Ranch series by Lyla Sage

This series is one of my favorites, so I had to include it all. It’s just sweet, light-hearted, and fun—everything you could hope for in a romance novel!

This is a four-part series, with Book 3: Lost and Lassoed being published later this year and Book 4: Wild and Wrangled confirmed for publication next year, so make sure to keep an eye out for it!

Book 1: Done and Dusted

Clementine ‘Emmy’ Ryder is lost. She has accomplished everything on her bucket list, left her small hometown of Meadowlark, went to college, and established her career as a horse rider—her favorite thing in life. But after an unfortunate accident, Emmy is unable to get back into the saddle and finds herself having to return to her hometown.

Enter Luke Brooks, Meadowlark’s resident bad boy, bar owner, and eligible bachelor. He is also Emmy’s brother’s best friend, meaning he spent most of their childhood antagonizing her. It's been years since he’s seen Emmy, but when she walks into his bar, he can’t get his eyes off her.

Things between Emmy and Luke heat up, and he can’t stop thinking about her. Does Emmy feel the same way? Can Luke help her get her spark back? Or will they go up in flames?

Book 2: Swift and Saddled

After failing her interior design program and escaping a disastrous marriage, Ada Hart bounced back from rock bottom. Now, the only person she trusts is herself; she has her own business, and one of Wyoming’s largest ranches has just hired her.

When Ada arrives in Meadowlark, she finds herself in a bar with Weston Ryder’s gaze on her. This handsome cowboy gives her an unforgettable kiss, and she thinks she'll never see him again...until he's her new boss.

With the mystery woman from the bar now working as the interior designer on his family's ranch, Weston thinks he’s hit the jackpot. Except that Ada wants nothing to do with him outside of work.

Ada is convinced her feelings toward Wes will disappear, but Wes can't stop thinking about her. Can they make it through this project without caving, or will they risk it all for love?

Alive and Wells by Bailey Hannah

Alive and Wells is the first book in Bailey Hannah’s Wells Ranch series and is also her debut novel. This book touches on some serious themes in a tasteful way and shows that love will always win. Check out the second book in the series, Seeing Red, and keep an eye out for the third and final book, Change of Hart, which will be released later this year!

City girl Cecily Kennedy never expected to end up at a cattle ranch. But she needs a job and an escape from her abusive (soon-to-be ex) husband. If only Cecily could work out if her new boss, Austin Wells, likes her or hates her.

The way he looks at her makes her feel things that she hasn’t felt in years. Though her breakup is still fresh, dating her new boss wouldn’t make anything easier. Especially when Austin is a serious, grumpy rancher who is sure that Cecily won’t be sticking around for long—nobody ever stays.

When he catches sight of the wedding ring indent on her finger, he is certain that she is going to be trouble.

But then Cecily’s past catches up with her, and Austin realizes that he’s already fallen for her. He wants her to stay, but most importantly, he needs to keep her safe. Can he do both?

Ride by Roxie Noir

Ride by Roxie Noir is, in my opinion, an underrated gem, and that’s why it’s made this list. You need to read this if you’re looking for an angsty, steamy, bad-boy story. This is a one-off, standalone book, but be sure to check out more of Roxie Noir’s writing!

Mae is a NYC-based photographer. Jackson is a two-time World Rodeo Champion. The two crossed paths in their teen years and spent a drunken night together, which Mae enjoyed but knows can never happen again.

So when Mae is offered the chance of a lifetime to photograph the World Rodeo Championships and encounters Jackson again, she is prepared to act like nothing happened, assuming he has forgotten that night all those years ago. But the truth is, he hasn't—not one bit.

Mae is there to make a name for herself and isn’t willing to let anyone get in the way. But when she sees Jackson again and he wants to pick up right where they left off, her feelings just might change. Will this ruggedly handsome cowboy be able to convince her to take a chance on him?

Reckless by Elsie Silver

You would’ve seen this one on TikTok, as Elsie Silver has been everywhere! There are 5 books in this series, but I’m specifically a fan of the 4th book, which is Reckless. This is a very sweet story, with some deeper themes in it too. Check this one out, and make sure to check out the other four books in the series too!

Reckless centers around Theo Silva, a famous bull rider known for his feisty and rebellious nature, and Winter Hamilton, a character who is portrayed as calm, collected, and ‘proper'—she is everything that Theo is not. Though the two are very different, they are pushed together by an unexpected situation, which is a challenge for both of them.

Theo’s lifestyle is wild, so forcing himself into a complex situation forces him to confront his past and current behavior. Unlike Theo, Winter has always been in control of her life, but his unpredictability draws her to him, which she could have never anticipated.

As Theo and Winter navigate their relationship, they must work through their own personal struggles and their new predicament to ultimately discover that sometimes the best things in life do come from taking risks.

Jess is a recent Sociology graduate with a deep love for books. Having run her Bookstagram for 4 years, Jess is well versed in the world of book blogging. She has fostered a community of over 1,000 fellow book lovers, and has used this opportunity to start writing for The Publishing Post, where she is an author interviewer.

Reading, writing, and publishing all run through Jess’s veins, and have given her a real sense of being. She cannot imagine not spending her time with her nose in a book, or scribbling away her own thoughts – which is a testament to how passionately she feels about the bookish world.
