The Story Continues...
Chapter 16:
Anaïs manages to get Leo and Gaspard together, and convince them of her story, asking their advice for why Clara cannot be killed during the attack. Leo surmises that she has created a new powerful talisman made from the bones of their ancestors in the catacombs and Anaïs realizes the talisman is Clara’s fan.
They make a scene and switch Clara’s fan for a decoy. In a closet Leo is able to feel the fan’s incredible power, but Anaïs is not. He goes on to reveal that the blood oath he took as a child did in fact actually bind him to the saints, and in the past his ancestors also practiced blood magic before forbidding it.
Chapter 17:
On the next iteration of the day Anaïs takes the fan and her story to the king once again, and she is thrown into the dungeons. Clara comes to speak with her, and of course will not listen to Anaïs’ reason. Anaïs once again pulls a bait and switch for Clara’s fan before leaning on the magic cell door bars, which kill her.
Chapter 18:
Leo submits that maybe it’s possible for him to swear a blood oath to Anaïs - as perhaps it is her ancestors that are in fact the Ivarean saints. It might work, but Anaïs is unwilling to make Leo give up what might be his magic forever, or even his life. She asks that they wait until the timing is perfect.
Chapter 19:
Part One
With the help of Gaspard and Jacinthe, Anaïs is able to convince Faucher to at least hear their plan - convince the king to make Faucher Prime Minister of a representative government in an attempt to stop Clara.
