Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
In Legendborn we follow Bree, who mourning the loss of her mother is attending a residential program at UNC-Chapel Hill. On her first night there she witnesses a demonic attack, which repels her into the world of people who claim to be "Legendborn", living with magical powers, set on destroying the creatures.
Bree discovers she has magic of her own, and that there was something suspicious about her mother's death. She must decide whether she should use her powers to join the Legendborn, or take them down.
Reboot by Amy Tintera
Several years ago Wren was killed, and 178 minutes later she came back to life as a Reboot, someone who come back stronger, faster, better than they were as a human, and the longer you were dead, the stronger you are. We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
