The story continues...
Chapter 15:
Greg Kostopoulos, another student, has been found dead in Illinois. Curious if his name is on the wall, Delaney heads to the Sanctum only to find it in disarray, Nate screaming at her on the floor to get out. She runs out of the forest and back on campus the lights on the walk start to go out one by one, and she sees an arachnid-like figure keening and moving towards her. She calls Colton in a panic, but by the time he arrives the lights are on again. He walks her back to her dorm.
Chapter 16:
Colton meets the Apostle at the school’s storage lockers, that happen to sit along a lay line. He reveals to Colton that Meeker has been following Delaney and knows all her habits, including where she goes each night. He warns Colton again to stay away from her, or he’ll see that it’s Colton that kills her.
Chapter 17:
It’s Delaney’s turn to try to get through the tear in the sky. Whitehall tells her to listen to the silence, and so turning off her implant she does. She succeeds in getting through, into a parallel place retaken by nature. She is greeted by Colton, and she asks him to tell her three true things before they go back, but as he’s doing so Delaney hears something in the distance, and runs after it. She finds Adya and the boy from the mirror and she explains he had been dead for weeks, and when no one found him he decided to put himself back together. Wanting to help, Adya followed him, straight to Delaney. Adya tells her something is coming, then she and the boy disappear.
Chapter 18:
Delaney is having a hard time noting the differences between a painting from one mirror world and this one. Colton tries to explain, saying that things on the surface seem incredibly similar. Mackenzie tells them the boy from the meadow was Nate Schiller. He was just found half dead in Chicago, and his parents had filed a missing person’s report back in June. Whoever Delaney had been hanging out with in the Sanctum definitely wasn’t Nate. And Colton knew.
Chapter 19:
The Apostle tells Colton he needs him in Chicago tomorrow for when Nate wakes up.
Chapter 20:
Delaney tells Colton he needs to come to Chicago with her. She wants to see Nate after hanging out with what was essentially his ghost all that time, and she doesn’t know if he’ll recognize her.
Chapter 21:
Colton wakes in the night after having a dream about his brother and calls Delaney, needing comfort. They stay on the phone in silence for a while and he tells her he doesn’t like keeping so many secrets.
Chapter 22:
On the plane Delaney tells Colton about the time in her childhood she found a boy at Walden Pond, a boy that disappeared before her parents came around the corner. She wonders if that is what she is - a person who can see the dead in the shadows. They start their descent into Chicago.
