The story continues...

Chapter 17:
The next morning Arturo begins Zarela’s Dragonador training. Lola convinces Guillermo, a member of the Gremio de Magia, to come to the dragon cages to see if he can discern what sort of magic was used when Benito died. He’s able to confirm that Benito was indeed killed by inhaling the magic, but Zarela isn’t allowed to go to the Gremia as he can’t be seen as helping her. For now they do nothing.

Chapter 18:
Zarela is invited to Tío Hector’s for dinner, on the way seeing Guillermo and Lola out together. Over dinner Zarela tells Hector some of what has happened since they last saw each other, and about the magic in the dragon cages. He believes that Don Eduardo may be working with the Asociación to sabotage her family as it was rumoured that her father might be in line for his position as Dragon Master, and no one would elect a disgraced Dragondor to the position. He tells Zarela to tell no one of this, but she has other plans.

Chapter 19:
Zarela decides she is going to break into the Gremia to find the correspondence between Don Eduardo and Martina from the Asociación, and Lola is determined to go with her.

They successfully break into the Gremia undetected, not finding much of note save for a letter from Hortensia to Eduardo, saying “Do not give up on him.” It is then they notice that Eduardo’s fern had been enchanted and is growing at a rapid pace, using its vines to detain them. Zarela uses a spell that rots things from the inside, which attacks the ferns roots. They flee back out the window but there is absolutely no way they will be able to break in again.

Back at La Giralda Zarela finds a note in her bed that tells her to stop pursuing this, or they’ll go after Lola next.

Chapter 20:
Zarela and Arturo train, and it seems with a change of technique, one more meant to mimic dancing, Zarela has a breakthrough. As they recover after, a shadow cast over them, the Morcego flies over them, towards Santivilla, bearing the colors of La Giralda.

 Questions:

  1. Who do you think Hortensia is referencing in her letter?
  2. What do you think Arturo wanted to reveal to Zarela before the Morcego escaped?
  3. Do you suspect someone in Zarela's household to be the one threatening her? If so, who?
